Cathodic protection

Metal pipes, tanks and structures in the ground or in water slowly corrode. Cathodic protection slows this corrosion using a small, controlled electrical current, helping the infrastructure last longer.

Carefully planned from the start

Electrochemical protection of metal infrastructure

Cathodic protection is a method of limiting corrosion on suitable metal infrastructure buried in the ground or immersed in water. It influences the electrochemical process at the metal surface, using sacrificial anodes or an impressed current system, depending on the application. This differs from painting or simply applying a protective coating. Design and assessment require specific information about the material, environment, condition and existing protection.

  • Longer infrastructure lifespan
  • Fewer unexpected repairs
  • Clear explanations and follow-up

What makes the difference

Pipelines, test points and tank infrastructure

Underground metal pipelines, certain tanks and structures may require a project-specific protection assessment. The environment, electrical continuity and existing coatings play a role. A pipeline photo shows only the infrastructure context; a test post or general cabinet does not prove that cathodic protection is present or working. Its effectiveness must be supported by appropriate measurements and assessment, not by the appearance of an installation.

The work involved

What we can do for you

  • Discuss the infrastructure, environment and available documentation.
  • Align the scope of work with the project-specific study or assessment.
  • Install protection components within the agreed scope.
  • Integrate cabling and accessible measurement facilities.
  • Coordinate or carry out agreed checks and follow-up measurements.
  • Carry out a targeted assessment of existing systems and possible modifications.

Initial consultation · design · installation · follow-up

From initial enquiry to follow-up

We start with your technical enquiry, available plans and existing measurement data. We then discuss which specialist assessment is needed and who takes responsibility for each aspect. The quotation is aligned with that defined scope. Execution requires coordination on accessibility, groundworks and the existing infrastructure. At handover, we go through the agreed checks and documentation. Ongoing monitoring is essential to assess effectiveness; a one-off installation does not provide an unlimited protection guarantee.

What helps us prepare a tailored quote?

Provide the type and material of the infrastructure, location, plans, existing coatings and any available corrosion or measurement reports. Mention current protection systems, known damage and planned groundworks. Without this information, we cannot assess which technique or scope is suitable; an initial discussion defines the enquiry.
